This is basically a 55

September 24, 2009

…except that it is 32 words.

I’m really on this horror kick it seems.

July 25, 2009

Won’t have time to finish this until late tonight, but I like it.  (Still 8 words over.)  I like the title “The Skeleton Tree” but I’m not sure I want to give that much in the title.

The white root wrapped itself around the hiker’s ankle, pulling him towards  the hole  at the base of the tree. As he was yanked below, his last sight was the tree above: pure white with black tumors, smooth bark and leafless branches.

When the search party passed by, the wind was rustling the tree’s new scarlet leaves, causing pale white seeds to fall.

New 55s up.

New 55 at 55aday – Sense Rewired

July 15, 2009

My father’s admonishments smell like fresh pumpernickel. Wearing corduroy tastes of orange curry. Your shampoo’s cherry aroma tickled the backs of my knees. The taste of your lips rolled green waves across my vision. Watching you walk away sounded like a bee under a plastic cup, the buzzes and bangs receding into your waiting cab.

Synesthesia – Sense Rewired

July 15, 2009

A 55, currently 12 words over.  Should be able to get it down pretty easily, and I like it so far:

My father’s admonishments smell like fresh pumpernickel. The smell of new-cut grass is sandpaper on my skin. Your hair in my hands tasted of orange curry. The taste of your lips moved green triangles across my vision. And watching you walk away sounded like a bee under a plastic cup, the buzzing slowly dying away as you got smaller and smaller and disappeared into your cab.

Trying to get this down to 55.

It’s 9 over right now. 😦

“You’re short on your register again, Nessa?” I asked.  “Schulman’s gonna kill you…  Okay, here’s what I do.  Take a bathroom break, palm a twenty from your pocket, and slip it into the register.”

“Wow, lame,” she giggled.  “You’ve been putting your own money in?”

I mumbled, “I don’t like being yelled at.”

It was no vindication when she got fired.  I liked Nessa.

55s Guestposted on the Webnovel “Street”

October 1, 2008

It’s mostly old ones of mine, but one new one also.  Check ’em out here.  Street seems like a fun cyberpunk story, too.

Also, we’ve got a bunch of stories on the forum now, including a new author.  If any of you have time to help out with them a bit, it would be like w0.

Last Man On Earth

by Ari Collins

Now that everyone’s gone, I go joyriding in their cars. Fast Porsches, Infinitis with whining orphaned GPSs, Hummers for hills of car skeletons. I buckle up and crash into telephone poles, houses, war monuments. I’m addicted to airbag adrenaline.

I’m speeding in a station wagon when a tiny blonde steps in front of the car.
