She crouched painfully in the corner of the room and bent the light around her, like pulling a shower curtain closed. Like when she’d pulled shower curtains closed. The men poured through the door, and the one she hated most screeched orders to sweep the room.

One of the men walked close enough for her to touch. Not much time. She wondered if she could be the only one he searched for. Surely this many men weren’t just for her. The thought gave her enough hope to do what she hadn’t done since mom and dad. She stared at the one she hated most and bend the light inside his mind.
